Thursday Inspiration

“I've heard that it's possible to grow up - I've just never met anyone who's actually done it. Without parents to defy, we break the rules we make for ourselves. We throw tantrums when things don't go our way, we whisper secrets with our best friends in the dark, we look for comfort where we can find it, and we hope - against all logic, against all experience. Like children, we never give up hope...”

What I'm Loving Wednesday...

**Clean and Clear Oil Blotting Sheets...even though I get super grossed out after I use one and it turns clear**

**My Pandora Fix--which has consisted of: Disney Radio, Nikki Minaj, and of course David Crowder**

**TG and I have some (and by some I mean copious amounts of) driving range/drinking time lined up**

**I'm playing matchmaker with some of my friends...and it's kinda exciting--because I think they'd be fantastic together**

The Cabo Incident

My dad has brought up the "Cabo Incident" on a regular basis over the past week--he still is aghast by it...and it was years ago.  My mom brings it up when she is trying to be funny, or annoy me. It all started on our first (family) vacay to Cabo.

I think we went to Cabo for the first time when I was in 5th or 6th grade.  At this time in my life I couldn't tell you the difference between Marc Jacobs and Manolo, Burberry and Mulberry or even what designer jeans were.

This was the first trip that I actually did all my packing by myself because my parents trusted me, and because I wasn't exactly the epitome of fashion at that time (who am I kidding, I'm still not)...so they figured how much harm can little Em do?  I filled my suitcase (which I believe was an Extra Large Red Eddie Bauer Duffel Bag) with clothes, swimsuits, books, shoes and flip-flops.

When we got checked into the place we were staying, David and I went to explore and my mom unpacked our suitcases in our respective rooms.  When we came back my parents both asked me to come into my room...where they had lined up my 14 pairs of shoes, and my 8 pairs of flip flops at the bottom of my bed.

Both of them were completely flabbergasted--Little Emily in her scrunchee, acid wash cut offs, and Esprit t-shirt brought 22 pairs of 'footwear.'  I still stand by the fact that each pair of shoes went with a different outfit/look, and I think it's impressive. That my friends is the "Cabo Incident" in a nutshell...

Here's to overpacking, fabulous footwear, and me being a little less of a fashion-victim than my 6th grade self!

Weekend Recap...

Hope everyone had a good weekend!  I don't know about you, but I feel as if this weekend flew by.  I'm sitting here writing wondering: what did I do this weekend, did I accomplish anything, and where in the world did the weekend go?!  Bright spot of this week...THREE DAY WEEKEND!

Friday:  My mom and I did our usual Friday afternoon Starbucks date.  On tap?  Just our usual (split) venti coffee light frapp.  From there I met Laurel for a quick walk/red mango sesh.  I honestly don't think she and I are ever at a loss for anything to talk about.  I'm not even kidding, the couple hours flew by--and afterward I was like 'oh wait I still need to tell you 'x,y,z...' Thankfully, she reiterated the sentiment.  Rachel met up with the two of us for Red Mango--so I could give her a Birthday Gift!!!! (and catch up with her too).  Thankfully the fun didn't stop there, I made a target run to get some bobby pins and walked out with quite a bit more.  Finally, our neighborhood did their firework display, and I'm not exaggerating when I say thousands of people come to watch it--it was incredible (even though it was super loud).

Saturday:  I got up and ran my 8 miles, and ran a bunch of errands.  **Side Note (eg where I hit rock bottom prior to noon)  My dad was going to costco to get gas and asked if I wanted to ride along.  I had changed out of my workout clothes back into pajamas (read really short 'PINK' shorts and a tank top), but since I was just riding, I figured NBD...oh no, once we pull into costco dad was like 'Em, you need to run in and get  this and that...' I lamented, but he told me I'd fit right in.  I was mortified, but now I think it's kinda funny...kinda**  From there I ran more errands, checked on and played with the animals that I'm pet sitting, and then met up with the girls I work with for dinner and drinks at M's Pub.  **Side Note (We kept it an early night so I called home on my way to check on the pets--and I told my dad who answered the phone my plan--his response:  Wow, it's 8.30...ummm, you sure you're headed home?  You know it's pretty early right?  My response--silent shame.**

Sunday:  Mainly just a family day.  I got some magazines and books read, spent a lot of time in the sun, and may or may not have enjoyed a few cocktails.

How was your weekend?!

Friday Favorites

I've been bad.  I've neglected my Friday Favorites.  Not because I don't have favorite things anymore...but because I don't have time (or cash flow) to try tons of new things...meaning I'm reverting to my old faves (security blanket). Thankfully I have a few new faves that I've been wanting to share with you!  I hope you enjoy and one (or more) becomes one of your favorites.

Whole Foods Frozen Fruit Bars:  Delicious, Healthy, and the Ideal Treat for a hot summer day or night.  I'm currently obsessed with the coconut flavor, although I've had (and loved) the strawberry as well.  Plus at less than 3 dollars a box, they're a bargain!

Urban Decay Naked Palette:  I picked this up at Sephora recently, and couldn't be happier.  12 different shades (matte and shimmer) that are all neutral.  Bliss.  Plus it's pretty foolproof--which, when it comes to make-up is a definite MUST for this girl.  Finally, I didn't realize this, but Sephora usually will sell out of this palette the day it comes in on shipment, so if you spot it--get it!!!

Back to Mac:  I love free stuff.  I also love being eco friendly, especially if there isn't a whole lot of effort involved.  Enter 'Back to Mac.'  Save 6 empty MAC containers (shadows, makeup wipes, lipgloss, lipstick, liner, etc) and bring them in to MAC and get a FREE Lipstick--I just picked up a "Pretty Pink" and my mom picked up a "Sweetie."

Starbucks Summer Drinks:  The past few Friday afternooons (with this Friday being no different), my mom and I have holed up at Starbucks for 'girl talk' and 'frappicinos.'  Specifically a: "Venti, Decaf, Coffee Light with a dome lid for surplus..."  When I mentioned this to some friends they raved about the "Mocha Coconut" or the "Double Chococlately Chip."  However you order yours--these summery drinks are a Winner in my book :)

Watermelon:  Hello random at the end of this post.  During the summer I eat so much more fruit that I do throughout the year.  Lately I've been eating pineapple, grapes, cantelope...and the holy grail of fruit: Watermelon.  It's almost to the point of embaressing to disclose the coupious amounts that I eat in one sitting. A tiny tip--watermelon cubes are quite yummy frozen (kinda like a popsicle or even fun as an 'ice cube.')  Do you have a favorite summery fruit?!

What have your favorites been this week (okay, or past couple weeks)!?!?
Thanks for reading.

**I have some super awesome friend-dates lined up over the next couple days!!!**

**This girl got some tan lines**

**Going to do some Back To Mac tonight and get a Free Lipstick**

**Since I'm Awake At The Crack of Dawn...This Totally Means Starbucks On The Way To Work!!!***

Friends for Life

One of my mom's closest friends from childhood (who she remained friends with up to the present) passed away due to a long battle with cancer 2 summers ago.  Capi owned a large ranch in Montana, barrel raced and did other rodeo professionally, and was always a true  friend to my mom with a heart of gold.  Growing up I always heard stories about mom's friends--but Capi was one who stuck out to me.  Maybe because her name was unique, maybe because of the sparkle in my mom's eyes when she talked about Capi, or maybe because friends for life seemed just perfect.

Recently an Uncle found this book at my Grandparent's house and gave it to my mom this past Saturday.

The title page--To Nanc...Love Capi
(God sure shows us how we're loved in mysterious ways...)

Each page had a different scene with corresponding (witty?) commentary on the actions of a friend.  It's a safe bet this was published in the 60s. :)

If you have an extra minute or two today...why don't you call that childhood friend of yours and tell them that you love them, that you're proud of who they've become, and that you're glad they were able to touch your life in some way, shape, or form.

Weekend Recap

I know I've talked about how I function best with a perfectly (meaning type-a) planned schedule.  This past weekend, I had nothing planned.  I knew I wanted to run, lay by the pool and relax.  I also knew I'd pry run a few errands--other than that, no plans.  I don't know why I don't do that more often, because I have to say, this weekend was stupendous.

Friday, Mom and I went out to lunch and did a bit of shopping.  We split the above salad at ingredient (spinach, fresh mozzarella, artichokes, kalmata olives, roasted potatoes, and grilled mushrooms)...and then stopped at Red Mango.  Friday Night, I ended up baby-sitting my cousin--we went out to dinner (panera), then saw Kung Fu Panda 2 (pretty cute, kinda funny, and a bit sad), and following that we got home and read 70 pages from a book (The Lightning Thief) we bought together one of the last times I watched him.

Saturday, I woke up and did my long run (8 miles) first thing.  I then made my to-do list and ran errands (optical place, pottery barn for some shower gifts, ann taylor, etc.). In the middle of those my friend ML decided to break up my errand running monotony and met up with me for coffee at Paradise.  It was good catching up with him--plus he finds my jokes slightly amusing (which is an admirable quality within itself).  From there, I ran a few more errands, laid out, and then cleaned up for that evening which involved some baseball.  Every year, the College World Series takes over Omaha--and this year is an especially important one as there is a brand new stadium.  I went with my friend RCM and had so much fun people watching, chatting, eating peanuts, and watching the game (Texas v. Florida).

Sunday, I slept in, but was still able to attend church with my Dad which was an extremely special memory for me.  Following that, I went on a run--which not only was difficult, but also gave me some pretty awesome tan lines--wuff.  Then I met up with GMH at whole foods.  He and I caught up on the past few weeks, among other things (the last time we hung out was when he gave me a bike riding lesson, LOL).  GMH is one of those people that I feel like I'm on the same wavelength on for most things...so it's fun discussing things like politics, religion, etc. where it's like 'aha! someone gets it!!!'.  After that, I laid out for a tiny bit and then I was able to take my dad out for a father's day beer (blue moon for him, bud light for me)!  Nothing too exciting Sunday night--I was in bed by 7.30.  The best part about Father's day for me was just being able to spend time with my dad.  He really is the best.

McIlroy Maddness

Did anyone else watch the U.S. Open this past week?
I didn't realize a 22 year old could be so poised, eloquent, and talented.
Plus his Irish Accent (or is it Brogue) doesn't hurt one bit.

I couldn't be more excited that Rory won...Especially after Augusta.
(Not to mention a 2 on hole 10 on the 4th day--pretty sweet).
Now to get on the LPGA tour so I can meet him
or Plan a fabulous trip to Northern Ireland.

Did anyone else follow the Open?  Who were your favorites!?

Mr. Wrong Issue #17

I should be a contender for most likely to have no idea if someone is interested in me.  Unless it is blatantly or painfully obvious, if the person actually 'uses their words' to let me know that they think I'm pretty cute (or something along those lines), or if the person makes a 'bold move,' then the light bulb will probably go on.

In most gentleman's defense: my disposition, constant smile, and perky-ness could somehow send them mixed signals--that is until they realize that is how I am with everyone.

This guy couldn't use that defense though because prior to meeting him we had one conversation.  To set the scene I was walking into a building on campus, he was walking out.  He held the door open--I made eye contact, smiled and said "Thanks--have a good day" and walked into the building.  That was the extent of our conversation, which didn't even register until I got a random facebook message.

The cliff notes version:  Hi Emily--allow me to introduce myself.  My name is ______ and I met you the other day when I held the door open for you...since then I've seen you on campus and I think you've smiled at me every single time.  I know this is super lame using facebook but I couldn't find you on email, I didn't want to get your phone number from someone and randomly call you, etc.  I was hoping I could take you on an official date (insert times and places), please let me know which would work for you...I'm looking forward to taking you out--but I'm sure I'll see you on campus before, like maybe even today. Keep smiling.

(as a disclaimer, I have a lot of respect for people who make a bold move and ask someone out--I know it is something that is extremely difficult to do, and I admire the courage and confidence it takes).

I took about 3 days to respond to this message because I was creeped out that he not only saw me a lot on campus, but also found out who I was, found me on facebook, etc.  But my response mainly thanked him, while letting him know that I was extremely busy between school, volunteering, church, washing my hair...ya know, just the ususal reasons--so I couldn't go out with him.  I didn't hear from him, so I assumed the matter was all squared away.

A week later I was studying outdoors on the opposite side of campus--enjoying the peacefulness, the sunshine, and the fact that it was probably one of the last beautiful days of the season.  I had a baseball cap and sunglasses on, my backpack next to me on the bench, and my iPod in...if that doesn't say 'don't talk to me,' I don't know what does.

In the middle of my reading, someone came up and stood directly in front of me--waiting for me to look up...when I did, it was Mr. Wrong.  I took out one ear bud and looked at him inquisitively--he smiled, taking that as an invitation to move my backpack and sit next to me, then look deeply into my eyes and tell me: I need to talk to you, and without waiting for a response went right ahead.

He, got my response and was so impressed with my extracurriculars:  Could he volunteer with me?  How about a study date at the library?  Or maybe a study break--you have to eat, right?  Even better though there were so many qualities about me that he loved (yes he used the l-word), and the were the exact qualities he was looking for in a wife.  (by now I'm texting my mom to call me while pretending to listen and slowly starting to pack up my books).  But more importantly than the qualities was the person I reminded him of...Jesus Christ.  Miraculously the phone rang at that time, and I was able to extract myself from that painful situation.

I think he eventually figured that I wasn't quite into him when I didn't respond to his next 4 facebook messages or friend requests.  I'm sure that somehow took me down a peg in his book--which was quite alright with me.

Still Waiting for my Mr. Right.

Prayer Request

I have a doctor appointment this afternoon that I'm extremely anxious about (as anyone in my shoes would be)...Would you send positive thoughts and prayers my way?  Bottom line, it's pry nothing, but in the off chance that it isn't:  I could use those thoughts and prayers.

Someone sent me this song this week.  At church it's one of my favorite worship songs.  But the lyrics have really put my heart in the right place.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

**Taking my little cousin to the driving range tonight...then out to dinner (our favorites--panera or whole foods...though we may venture to Ingredient tonight)**

**The Word "Crosspatch":  When used correctly it's quite the insult**

**Writing Letters...even better--recieving letters**

**Tennis the other night with TG--we ended up tying, even though I think he might have let me win the first game (luckily my groundstroke winners at the end made up for it)**

**As of yesterday my older brother and sister-in-law have been married for 3 years**

**My friend EH who texted me not once but twice to see if she could get to the office early with me--so I wouldn't have to do an insurmountable project alone**

**Finding a Gift Card in my purse this morning...then finding another in my car...**

**Getting my 4miles in this morning so post baby-sitting tonight I can go straight to bed**

**Getting Complimented (on my way into work) on my legs...that's seriously the first time that has EVER happened...so it MADE my day!!!**

What are you loving on this lovely Wednesday?!

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday :)  I hope you had the most wonderful weekend filled with beautiful weather, the people and things you love the most, and of course fun!!!

Friday --I went to the driving range and hit a jumbo bucket of balls (pry 125ish, give or take), I then grabbed a quick Starbucks with mom--who reminded me that I needed to run.  Thus a quick 4 mile run and then veggin out for the night.  My Friend RKW and I both watched via hulu "Cutting Edge 4: Fire and Ice."  RKW used to be a competitive figure skater--our texting commentary went like this:

me: So is it typical to have s*x in the training room the night before nationals?
RKW: oh, yeah, absolutely...all the time.
me: and team bonding (of 2 people) happens over strip poker?
RKW: LOL. I never should have quit figure skating.

RKW:  I think the actress had a botched collagen lip job. yikes.
me: speaking of the mouth area that actor needs veneers...wuff.
RKW: Oh you noticed the yellow, crooked teeth too...? weird

Following the movie RKW made sure to send me links to actual (talented/world renowned) figure skaters--just to make sure I realized that that was NOT what our movie portrayed.

Saturday--started with a long run which was followed by me going back to sleep for a good 3-4 hours. I then ran a bajillion errands, crossed a ton of stuff off my to-do list, cleaned my car, thought about napping, and then spent some time with my friend PCH!  We had a snack, caught up on life (and lifetime), and saw lots of teenage mom's at the mall...like an abnormally large amount.

Then it was out to celebrate ELC's engagement :)  I took a lot of pictures...but just thought I'd share a few with you.

This is pry one of my favorites...**CHEERS**

Post Sushi--we spotted the happy couple!
Sunday--Went to Church (Pentecost Sunday) and then to the driving range.  Not even kidding--the wind was at my back so when I was warming up with my 9-iron--and my shots were flying...I was really excited about that.  Following the Range...LJ and I took a super long walk and caught up :)
Finally, I went home and went to our neighborhood picnic with my parents.  There were bounce houses (see pictures below for evidence), face painting, balloon animals, sno cones, catered food (yum)...Since I am 24, the only thing I was able to participate in without looking like a total weird--the food.  I ended my day with a run (terrible idea after eating so much good food)...and am now contemplating my "to-do" list for this coming week.
This only shows 3 of the 6 bounce houses (be still my heart)

How was your weekend?!

Thanks for Reading. xo

Book Titles

I've always wanted to write a book.  Not a fiction one, but one about myself: my life choices, dating and eating habits (both of which could majorly improve), and things in my ordinary life that I find extraordinarily witty (normally because I say them).  I've come up with a list of titles...most sound like a sad country song... (I would love any input on my titles from you :D).  See y'all on Monday...I have a fun weekend planned...and hope you do as well!

*Was that an earthquake or did I just rock your world???

*High Heels...Low Morals...and the girl who wore flats

*Tripping Up The Stairs

*Champagne taste on a Beer Budget

*It's not me...It's You

*"My 5 year plan doesn't include you"...and other helpful ways to end relationships, friendships, and uncomfortable conversation.

Where Did Mr. Wrong Go?

I was asked if I replaced my Mr. Wrong Wednesdays with a Mr. Right...much to the person asking the questions disappointment (as well as my mother's disappointment), the answer was a resounding no followed by some awkward laughter.  So the million dollar question--why have I stopped writing about Mr. Wrong?

1) I had a someone who I thought was a very possible Mr. Right, who turned out to be Mr. Mixed Signal/Mr. I like you but I don't want a relationship maybe you can wait for me...? This unfortunately did a number on me for 4 or so months until I realized I couldn't wait around for him to finally tell me I was enough...when I already was enough.

2) Then I had a Mr. Right Now who I tried to change into the ideal Mr. Right and I  just ended up getting annoyed by because he did turn into what I thought I wanted...and it turned out it wasn't at all what I wanted...and I'm sure I ended up doing a number on him.

3) Then I had another one, who at a different time and place may have been a Mr. Right...but as he informed me in a very hurtful and spiteful way I wasn't the Perfect Mrs. Right for him (although he gave me some suggestions to turn into that person).

So don't worry...I still have plenty of Mr. Wrong stories, moments, encounters, and so on.  I may be a week, a few weeks or even months before I post again.  For now, I need to process a few that may have hurt a little deeper than the ones I've shared with you...I suppose that is all part of growing up, huh?

Workout Music

A friend recently asked me what I listen to while working out...because I wasn't totally paying attention to the question I replied "...uh, music..."  I think their expression to that response made me quickly promise to email them my current favorite workout playlist.

Following some positive feedback from that friend...(and a few other's that I ended up sending my playlist to)...I thought I'd share itwith you--small warning--it is extremely eclectic--but in my mind pretty awesome:

*3OH!3 feat. Wiz Kahlifa: Double Vision
*Adele: Set Fire to The Rain
*Flipsyde: Angel
*Flipsyde: When It Was Good
*Jack's Mannequin: Dark Blue
*Lupe Fiasco: The Show Goes On
*Matt & Kim: Daylight
*MIKA: Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)
*Phoenix: Lisztomania
*Reel Big Fish: Beer
*Tim McGraw: Something Like That
*Toby Keith: How Do You Like Me Know?

What are your favorite workout songs lately?!

What I'm Loving Wednesday!!!

**I'm taking my younger (just finished first grade) cousin to the driving range tonight.  It's his first time 'golfing' and he is so excited!  I am too!!!

**My friend GH, who is this super amazing cyclist among other things (he was almost at a professional level prior to going to grad school), gave me a bike riding lesson last night.  I was really confused on gear shifting--and now I could pry go win the Tour de France--thanks to him!  (he also unsuccessfuly tried to teach me to 'pop a wheelie' at my request, on the bright side I learned how to take off my front tire).

**I got in a really good run this morning...I love running super early in my neighborhood--it is so peaceful--and fun hearing the birds chirping :)

**I organized my make-up bag and transitioned purses Monday night.  It makes getting ready for work, and getting out the door (not digging for my keys) so much easier.

**My nails are a super pretty pink color (which I found in one of the purses I cleaned out), and they haven't chipped yet.

**My friend LJ and I are going to see Bright Eyes on Saturday (!!!) I know this is so typical but First Day of My Life is my favorite song of theirs...with a close second being Easy/Lucky/Free and I couldn't forget Bowl of Oranges .

**Speaking of LJ--she and I are definitely going to the Grand Opening of Red Mango on Saturday as well (this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone).

**My friend EH shared 'Honey Badger' with me--and I can't stop watching it, or laughing hysterically.  (Only watch if cuss words don't bother you).

**Fill Me In...WHAT are you Loving on this Wednesday?!**
